Tubman Family Law Self-Represented Legal Clinics

Self-Represented Legal Clinics (SRLCs) help low-income individuals represent themselves in family law cases including divorce, custody, parenting time, or child support. Volunteer attorneys will draft court documents, give extended legal advice, and help clients get ready for mediation, court conferences, and court hearings. Volunteer attorneys only help clients prepare for their cases and do not go to court or meet with the other side.

Cases can be venued in any Minnesota county, however, the client must be able to travel to Minneapolis or Maplewood for their clinic appointment.

Application Process

Clients call Tubman's Resource Line at 612-870-2400, where basic screening is completed for income, assets, venue, and case type.

Clients are then registered for an intake screening appointment with legal staff. Appointments are done over the phone for English-speakers and in-person at our South Minneapolis location for non-English speakers. Interpreters are available upon request.
