Minnesota Legal Advice Online
Minnesota Legal Advice Online is a website where people can post a legal question for a volunteer lawyer. The site is free and secure, with the questions & answers being only between the lawyer and client. Questions can be created and posted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The site works like a virtual, drop-in legal clinic. Response time, and whether a response is received, depend on the availability and expertise of volunteer lawyers donating time.
Visit the site to complete a short screening process that asks about income, where you live, and type of legal question. Then answer additional questions to describe your legal problem and create a posting which will be visible to volunteer lawyers. You may create and post questions any time of day; lawyers review and respond to questions on their own schedules. Questions remain open for at least 3 weeks, during which time lawyers can view and respond. Unfortunately not every question will be answered. If you need immediate assistance because of a hearing or deadline, we recommend that you also pursue other help.
