SSI is a cash benefit program that is run by the Social Security Administration. It is designed to help low-income people who are 65 or older, blind or disabled. The SSI program has income and asset limits. In 2018, the income limits are $750 for an individual and $1,125 for a couple. The asset limits are $2,000 for an individual and $3,000 for a couple. Certain assets, like a home and a car that is worth less than $4,500, or a car of any value if Social Security determines that you need it, are not counted.
